Australian women experience sexual violence

Australian women experience sexual or physical violence by a current or ex-partner

Incidents of violence against women go unreported

About violence against women

Violence against women and their children in Australia is one of the most prevalent, pervasive and urgent challenges our community faces.

The social, health and economic costs incurred as a result of this violence are staggering; with the economic cost alone sitting at ~$21.6 billion annually; and whilst we continue to try and uncover the full extent of the physical and psychological harm, we know that the suffering can be inherited through generations.

Existing policy measures are insufficient, and nearly 2 women a week are killed by the hands of their partner or former partner, making the most dangerous place for a woman to be on Saturday night at home with her partner.

Our Partners

We have established partnerships with key service providers within the sector to ensure the accuracy and efficacy of our content, and to make certain that we find the right human escalation point for users in crisis.

These partners include:

What is a Chatbot?

A ChatBot is a software application, powered by rules and sometimes artificial intelligence, that you interact with via a chat interface – like a text message or messaging app.

The service can be any number of things, ranging from functional to fun, and it could live in any major chat product (SMS, Facebook Messenger, Skype, Telegram, etc.).

Generally, ChatBots fall into two categories; Rule-based Bots, which have a simple, pre-programmed backend, and Machine Learning Bots, which utilise Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a more human, conversational interaction. Machine Learning Bots get ‘smarter’ the more they are used, and are a huge growth area in technology.

Our Mission

To provide discreet, accessible and culturally-appropriate support for those affected by violence.

Our Impact

Under-reporting, non-disclosure and resource shortages are some of the immense challenges we face in ending violence against women in Australia. Fear, shame, access, and cultural differences form complex barriers that prevent many victim/survivors of family and sexual violence from reporting or disclosing abuse, and from accessing the support they deserve. Service providers are overwhelmed, and the lack of culturally-appropriate assistance means our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD and migrant women and children are falling through the cracks.

Utilising ChatBot technology, we have created a discreet, intuitive and easily-translatable way of providing instant support for victim/survivors, and providing a more equitable and accessible pathway to support.

  • Prevent incidents from escalating through early intervention
  • Empower self-care for users
  • Overcome language and cultural barriers through translated and population-based content
  • Drive community-led education and prevention
  • Improve coordination, integration and quality of support for victim/survivors of family and sexual violence
